Who is Neri Barranco?

I was born in Mexico City in 1988, and spent my early childhood and adolescence in Tulancingo Hidalgo. I returned to Mexico City in 2007 to study at ITAM, and since 2011 I have worked in the financial industry (debt markets, capital markets, fintech and mergers and acquisitions)

Origin of

NERI | Barranco

My history in the emerging contemporary art scene dates back to 2015, when I first visited the self-managed artist space called Biquini Wax and I became aware of the interesting, dynamic and vibrant processes that were happening at that time.

I started collecting a generation of young artists whose talent was fascinating, such as: Daniel Aguilar Ruvalcaba, Madeline Jiménez Santil, Jazael Olguín Zapata, irak morals, Israel Urmeer, Paloma Contreras Lomas, among others. After many months of developing affective bonds with the artists, I began helpping them to the extent of my abilities with additional resources to support not only their personal projects but their collective goals.

After some years of constant support to the emerging contemporary art scene in Mexico City, I realized that my financial help was not enough to attack the monetary problems they faced in their day to day, and that there was not even a market established for a generation of a talent that is seen every two or three decades. They all faced financial problems that distracted them from their careers. That is how I began to design a plan to create a market so that this generation could live in the medium and long term of their work.
